Pearl Lowes amazing home x

Confession time. I want Pearl Lowes house. Now!

I fell in love with her home ever since she done an piece for Grazia Magazine a while back. And she has kindly let us have another nose about and opened her doors to Country Calling.

I love everything about the house, I would move in and literally not change a thing. Can you imagine having a bedroom like that? With a bath like that?

To pixie or not?

When you have short hair as I do and fancy a change there isn't much you can do. The choice is to go shorter or change the colour!

I love Michelle Williams hair cut and have been toying with the idea of going slightly shorter for a while. I always seem to keep the front long and hide behind my fringe.

So do I do a Williams or not?

And then if I do, do I go all the way and go blonde as well?

Vogue Festival. Part Two. An afternoon with Tom Ford

The afternoon session certainly kicked off in style, with the amazing. Mr Tom Ford

Waiting for Mr Ford!

Showing a montage of some of his amazing works

In talk with Vogue Editor Alexandra Shulman
"My real life's not like the fantasy Tom Ford world - with naked girls pouring perfume everywhere. It's more staying in and watching Friends on television."

The room was absolutely buzzing waiting for the Tom Ford talk and a massive cheer went up when he entered the room (the only cheer of the day, most had been polite clapping!)

You cant help but fall in love with him, he was laid back, funny and oh so charming.

He spoke briefly about his private life. His partner, Richard, whom he has been with for 25 years was sat at the front. He spoke about not drinking for 4 years, what he likes to do to relax, and the he spent his 50th birthday with friends white water rafting.

He explained why he is not longer doing catwalk shows but rather refers to do small intimate presentations as people get to see this clothes close up and get to really see the cut, shape and flow of the clothing, he feels that you have to "over dramatise" everything for catwalks, he describe his collection becoming more "couture like"

They also discussed his film, A Single Man. Tom said that he finds designing women's collections allot harder then making films. "womenswear is perishable, films last for years"

I could have honestly listen to him talk all day, he is just wonderful you cant help but fall hook, line and sinker for this wonderful man.

After a quick break and a chance for everyone to calm down, it was Ask The Models time.

A panel discussion with models, Lilly Cole, Jordan Dunn, Eva Herzigovea and Natalia Vodianova

The models are introduced one by one by Alexandra Shulman

"this job is about other people having opinions about you - it's always someone else's point of view".

It was quite an amazing and frank conversation with the models. The explained "don't let this be what you want to do, let it find you and use it as a stepping stone"

They all spoke about what its like getting into modelling at such a young age and how it feels being scrutinised and judged on your looks. Lilly Cole added that still being at school and only modelling part time was a saving grace.
It certainly didn't sound like a glamorous job like you hear about or see on programmes such as Next Top Model (none of the models had seen this programme by the way) and if I ever have a daughter I'm not sure id be happy with her going into that world.

Of course the talk about weight came up
"The big contracts go to the girls who are healthy - they need to have a sparkle in their eyes and you can't fake that if you're unhealthy."
They were all adamant that they don't diet but just eat healthy and keep a healthy lifestyle. Annoyingly none of them work out! Eva had only done a yoga class "twice"

Is it all about the red carpet?

This was the final talk of the day. With Vintage god, William Banks-Blaney, actress Joely Richardson, photographer Richard Young and uber stylist Rachel Zoe.

Alexandra Shulman introduces the panel, including stylist Rachel Zoe

"Picking your favourite look is like picking your favourite child! I get so emotionally attached to each one,"

They spoke about the wonder and the glamour of the red carpet past and present. Richard Young had an amazing story where before the Four Weddings premier he was contact by Versace and was told:

"Elizabeth Hurley is going to be wearing a very special dress on the red carpet and we'd suggest that you stand to her right and you'll get a much better picture than the left, as Hugh Grant will be standing on the left'" Young explained. "And of course she was wearing that dress held together entirely by safety pins and ended up on every front page all over the world. That was a money shot, if ever there was one."

The panel and the audience were then asked to vote on a number of Oscar looks ranging from Julia Roberts, Nicole Kidman and Michelle Williams. The outstanding winner of course was Gweneth Paltrow in that amazing Tom Ford gown.

I had such an amazing day at the festival and feel it is such a good idea, I cant imagine anyone but Vogue managing to pull in the bug names that they had. I really hope they do it again next year. I will definitely be there for both days!

Vogue Festival Part One

Yesterday I was lucky enough to spend the day at the very first Vogue Festival. And what an amazing day it was!

With speakers from Tom Ford, David Bailey, Henry Holland just to name a few it promised to be a very insightful and interesting day.

It was split into morning and afternoon sessions so I'll do this post in too parts also (I have loads of photos!)

First talk of the day was the wonderful Diane Von Furstenburg

Vogue Editor Alexandra Shulman greets DVF

Diane talks about inventing the famous wrap dress

"role model for us all, with the best legs in the world"

Diane spoke about start in the industry, how she turned her passion into a viable business and brand and doing this as both a woman in the 70's and with 2 young children at home.
She talked about her marriage to a Prince "this is where most fairytales end, but this is where mine started"

I found her so very inspiring,, she was smart and funny and you just feel a genuine love and warmth coming from her.

My favourite part of the talk was when she was explaining about being on the cover of the Wall Street Journal

"I was on an early flight one morning and I was the only woman on the plane," she said. "On the same day, I'd managed to make it onto the cover of the Wall Street Journal - which I had bought for the journey. There was a man sitting next to me on the plane and he kept staring at my legs and nudging me in the way someone does when they want to talk to you, but don't know what to say. So instead, the first thing he said to me was: 'Why would a girl like you be readingWall Street Journal?' I looked at him like 'you jerk'. I never said to him, 'look you idiot, I'm on the cover!' Of all the satisfactions I've ever had in my life, that was the biggest."

An amazing woman with such a great story to tell.

Next up was Fashion question time with a host of fabulous designers.  Christopher Kane, Holly Fulton, Mary Katrantzou, Henry Holland, Nicholas Kirkwood andRoksanda Ilincic.

Designers take to the stage for Fashion question time.

"London designers maybe weren't taken so seriously before, but now we have viable businesses it's much better."

The discussion ranged from starting out in this business, what advice they would give to anyone wanting to start a brand and how much financial backing helps.

This lead onto speaking about collaborations with both Henry Holland for Debenhams and Christopher Kane and Mary Katrantzou for Topshop. They agreed that these were a good idea. They helped people like myself and you maybe be able to get our hand on pieces by them, its gives them a cash injection for their own brand and be able to build that. They did also all agree that the collaborations would have to be something they wanted though and wouldn't just out their name to anything.

Henry was bizarrely asked how he does his hair! Apparently its a 4 step operation and only takes 4 minutes. Sea salt spray, hair dry, hair straighteners (he admitted this was the embarrassing part and then wax. There you go!

Then it was the one I had really been looking forward to. Mr David Bailey!

Poor Jo Ellison really had her hands full with Bailey!

"I never tried to revolutionise photography; I just do what I do and keep my fingers crossed that people will like it"

Bailey certainly didn't let us down. Extremely honest, never minding his P's&Q's. He had he room laughing within seconds. He was such fun, some of his amazing quotes!

"the only thing they can't teach you at art school is art"

"And Lord Lichfield, I mean, he only got into Vogue because he was a Lord. It wasn't his fucking photographic skills, anyway. Nice guy, but he was visually blind."

"That myth of Bailey making models cry, I mean, they were usually lovers,"

"I had a terrible time with feminists in the Seventies," he said. "They hated me, those women. I think they hated everything."
"Do you think they didn't understand you?" Ellison enquired.
"No," Bailey replied. "I think they were stupid."

A lovely part at the end Bailey was asked who in the world he would most like to photograph "I would like to photograph every single person in the world"

You just cant help but very much love Bailey.
